Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the United States House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation, backed by Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander, to fix the healthcare cliff millions of Americans and thousands of families in New Hampshire are facing by extending the tax credits under the Affordable Care Act. These tax credits expired on January 1st, putting hardworking families and seniors in the impossible position of having their health insurance costs skyrocket. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, families in New Hampshire are facing premium increases up to 95%.
“Lowering the sky-high cost of healthcare is a matter of life or death for families across New Hampshire. That’s why I am laser-focused on saving the healthcare that tens of thousands of Granite Staters rely on and will lose if Congress doesn’t act,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “Our bill extends lifesaving tax credits for three years, lowering costs for hardworking families in New Hampshire and across the country. We had the votes to do this before the end of the year, but Speaker Johnson refused to allow a vote. I’m proud we fought to get this over the finish line in the House, and I will not rest until this bipartisan bill becomes law.”
Goodlander has dedicated her life to ensuring a fair deal for the people of New Hampshire. Since coming to Congress, she has worked to deliver a bipartisan solution to the health care crisis. She championed the CommonGround for Affordable Health Care Act, bipartisan legislation mirroring a landmark new plan to protect the healthcare that tens of thousands of Granite Staters rely on and address the root causes of our healthcare crisis. She is also leading the Fix It Act, bipartisan legislation to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits for tens of thousands of Granite Staters who rely on them. She has also urged Senate leadership to engage in bipartisan discussions across both chambers to resolve the crisis of health care affordability.
