WASHINGTON (WCAX) – A bipartisan housing bill supported by New Hampshire Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander has passed the House.
The Housing for the 21st Century Act is designed to increase housing supply by cutting red tape, modernizing federal housing policy and giving communities more tools to build affordable homes.
Supporters say the legislation could speed up approvals, streamline environmental reviews and expand options like manufactured homes.
Goodlander says the package is a step toward making home ownership more attainable.
“When I sit down with young families, seniors, veterans, and workers across New Hampshire, I hear the same thing: people are working hard, doing everything right, and still cannot afford a place to live. That’s not right, and Congress can and must continue to act,” Goodlander, D-New Hampshire, said in a statement.
The measure now moves to the Senate.
