Goodlander-Backed Amendment Supporting Funding for Manchester VA Medical Center Upgrades Attached to Bipartisan Funding Package

Washington, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (NH-02) helped pass an amendment in support of robust funding for improvements to VA direct care for New Hampshire veterans, including funding for upgrades to the Manchester VA Medical Center, during House consideration of the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2027. Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) led the amendment.

“I believe we have a sacred obligation to the tens of thousands of women and men across New Hampshire who served our country in uniform. They put their lives on the line to keep us safe, and it is my mission in Congress to ensure these brave American heroes have access to the full range of healthcare they need — when they need it and where they need it,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “Our bipartisan amendment is an important step in this mission and I won’t quit until we succeed.”

“Our veterans have each put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms, and they deserve the best possible care and benefits after their service. Recurrent issues at the Manchester VA Medical Center mean that too many of our veterans have had difficulty accessing the care they need close to home,” said Congressman Pappas. “I have always fought to deliver more resources to our veterans, and I will continue to fight for improvements at the Manchester VA Medical Center.”

Background:

Goodlander, a member of the For Country Caucus and House Armed Services Committee who served for more than a decade in the United States Navy Reserve, has been a vocal champion for delivering more resources for veterans at the Manchester VA Medical Center, including by sending letters to the VA and the White House, helping introduce legislation and an amendment that passed the House, and advocating directly before the House Appropriations Committee and on the House Floor for this effort. She has led a number of VA oversight efforts, including opposing the VA’s decision to unilaterally terminate collective bargaining agreements for VA employees and opposing a proposed VA rule that would rescind abortion access for veterans and their loved ones who get care through VA.
