Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Maggie Goodlander released the following statement after voting in favor of the Laken Riley Act:
“America is a nation of immigrants, and I am committed to fighting for legislative reforms that treat immigrants with dignity, secure our borders, provide an earned pathway to citizenship, and stop the flow of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs that are fueling overdose deaths in communities across New Hampshire.
“I support giving law enforcement the tools they need to keep our communities safe and prevent deaths that never should have happened, like the tragic death of Laken Riley. In voting for the Laken Riley Act, I want to be clear: this bill is not the comprehensive border security and immigration reform bill that the American people deserve. I will keep working with anyone who will work with me – Republicans and Democrats alike – to deliver on legislation that will update and properly fund our outdated and underfunded immigration system.”
Representative Goodlander has dedicated her life to serving New Hampshire and our country. She began her career as a senior advisor to Senator John McCain in the United States Senate where she helped craft the comprehensive, bipartisan Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (S.744), which passed the Senate in 2013 and continues to be a framework for future reform.
