NASHUA, N.H. — The importance of federal funding was highlighted by U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander Thursday morning at Nashua Community College.
Goodlander said these are very uncertain times when it comes to where federal dollars will be spent, but she said it’s important that prior commitments regarding spending be honored.
At Nashua Community College, the congresswoman got a hands-on look at three programs, including a machine shop where students learn skills to get them get a job at one of many Granite State manufacturers.
She also saw a microelectronics lab sponsored by BAE Systems where students work to assemble components under a microscope.
Goodlander said the programs are necessary when it comes to improving the quality of life for Granite Staters, so she plans to stress that when she returns to Washington, D.C.
“We’re in the midst of a real crisis of affordability and accessibility, so I am making the case as best I can,” Goodlander said. “It’s why I came here today so that I can talk to my colleagues about the urgent need for the federal government to continue supporting these programs that are really the lifeblood of our community.”
Goodlander also heard from students who said that the programs are making or, in some cases, have made a real difference in their lives. She said that’s another reason why money that has already been allocated for such programs must be delivered to the schools.
Goodlander also plans to visit Dartmouth Medical Center, where she said there are real concerns that cuts in federal funding will affect medical research.
