CONCORD, N.H. (WCAX) – A leader from our region is running the numbers on the Pentagon budget.
This week, the House Armed Services Committee agreed to add $150 billion to the more than $1 trillion Pentagon budget.
New Hampshire Rep. Maggie Goodlander says even though the department makes up around 50% of the U.S. total discretionary spending, they have never passed a clean audit. In fact, she says they have failed seven financial audits in recent years.
“A clean audit is essential for any organization that depends upon the public’s trust – and the Department of Defense is no exception… If you’re serious about cracking down on waste, fraud and abuse, requiring the Pentagon to pass a clean audit should be a top priority,” said Goodlander, D-New Hampshire.
Goodlander has now introduced an amendment requiring the DOD to conduct and pass a full independent audit, or they’ll have their additional $50 billion in funding withheld.
