U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the bipartisan For Country Caucus, visited a pair of service providers that help veterans last week.
On Tuesday, Goodlander visited the Manchester VA Medical Center to learn about the services they provide for New Hampshire’s veterans.
“New Hampshire is home to more than 80,000 veterans who have served our state and our country with honor. We have a sacred duty to ensure they have the support they need to thrive,” Goodlander said in a news release. “In Congress, I am working with anyone who will work with me to deliver for our veterans and to support the incredible VA staff who make their care possible.”
On Friday, Goodlander visited Harbor Care in Nashua to learn more about the broad range of services they provide for vulnerable community members, including hundreds of New Hampshire veterans, and to discuss the importance of federal funding on their operations. During the visit, Goodlander met with veteran residents of Buckingham Place, a transitional housing facility in Nashua, and patients at their Health and Wellness Center.

From housing our veterans to primary and preventive health care to HIV/AIDS care, the extraordinary providers and advocates at Harbor Care are making all the difference for Granite Staters,” said Goodlander.“I’m grateful to have such a phenomenal partner in Harbor Care. In Congress, I will never stop fighting to protect the federal funding that makes the support they provide to our veterans and our communities possible.
“At Harbor Care, we see firsthand the life-changing impact that stable housing and accessible healthcare have on our most vulnerable community members,” said Harbor Care CEO Henry Och. “We’ve effectively ended veteran homelessness and significantly reduced chronic homelessness in greater Nashua through permanent housing and support services.”
Federal funding is not only critical to this success, it’s extremely cost-effective. It costs our community nearly three times more money to serve someone who is chronically homeless through our local emergency response system than it does to provide that individual permanent housing. We are grateful for Representative Goodlander’s leadership on this issue.”
Goodlander said she has dedicated her life to serving New Hampshire and our country. Before taking the oath to represent the 2nd District in the House, she served as a senior adviser at the White House where she led the Unity Agenda for the Nation, dedicated to solving five big challenges that unite us as a nation, including meeting our sacred obligation to veterans.
Goodlander served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve for over a decade. Last week, Goodlander, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the bipartisan For Country Caucus, introduced the bipartisan ASSIST Act, legislation to ensure disabled veterans are empowered to make the vehicle modifications they need to travel safely.
