KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Appearing on Good Morning with Dan Mitchell on WKBK Radio this morning, Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-NH) discussed the challenges of her first month in Congress, focusing on the federal funding freeze imposed by the Trump administration.
Goodlander warned that the freeze is already creating confusion in New Hampshire communities and jeopardizing essential programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
“This raises a number of really serious practical challenges for governing, but it also raises really important constitutional questions,” Goodlander told Mitchell. “Congress has the power of the purse, and these are all appropriations laws that were properly enacted.”
Goodlander, a former Navy officer and Justice Department attorney, now serves on the House Armed Services and Small Business Committees. She emphasized her commitment to working with local leaders and small business owners to address their concerns, particularly about the cost of living and the impact of tariffs.
Another major issue she discussed was the potential misuse of military facilities for immigration enforcement, pledging to ensure that military resources are used lawfully.
Goodlander also expressed deep concern over threats to reproductive rights, emphasizing the importance of protecting access to healthcare, including medication abortion.
“I’m really concerned across the board—here we are in the Live Free or Die state, and there hasn’t been a time in my lifetime where I’ve had less freedom over my own body,” she said.
As she continues her first term, Goodlander made clear that she remains committed to protecting critical programs and advocating for New Hampshire residents against policies she believes put them at risk.
