MANCHESTER, N.H. — Rep. Maggie Goodlander said during her “Conversation with the Community” installment that New Hampshire’s child care crisis is costing the state’s economy “millions and millions” of dollars, and that this is one of the most pressing issues on her agenda.
“This is costing us. It’s a crisis. I’m very focused on every solution that we can bring to bear to this issue,” Goodlander said.
She also criticized the Trump administration, saying that its way of handling the crisis isn’t correct.
“Unfortunately, I think we hear from far too many corners of this administration, the Trump administration, that the answer is, ‘women can just stay at home.’ This is not the answer,” Goodlander said.
Goodlander said that her strategy to solve the child care crisis is to bring more providers to the state. To do this, however, Goodlander said that the housing crisis must also be improved to accommodate the incoming providers.
“I’m focused on how we can solve our housing crisis, which is deeply connected to our child care crisis,” Goodlander said. “I’m looking to find every creative solution to protect the programs that exist now, the tax credits that could be expanded and really reworked, for this moment.”
