MANCHESTER, N.H. — In response to a question asking if President Donald Trump has committed an “impeachable offense,” Goodlander told “Conversation with the Community” host Adam Sexton that the president’s behavior is unprecedented and unlawful.
“Our Constitution sets out a standard that we looked at exhaustively,” Goodlander said. “We have never seen a United States president carry out the duties, the solemn duties, of that role in the way that we are seeing President Trump behave.”
Goodlander said she believes Trump’s actions are a breach of the U.S. checks and balances system and the “core functions of government.” She added that her mission is to fight for the constitutional principles she took an oath to uphold as a lawyer.
“What I’m trying to do every single day in Congress is to fight for the people of New Hampshire, and for the Constitution that I took an oath to uphold and defend,” Goodlander said.
When asked to repeat her answer as either a “yes or no,” Goodlander replied that impeachment is not her main concern.
“I’m focused on protecting our homeland, and our people,” Goodlander said.
