Ahead of Looming Republican Government Shutdown, Goodlander Helps Lead Slate of Legislation to Deliver for Military Families, Federal Workers

Washington, D.C. – Today, ahead of the looming Republican government shutdown, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander is leading a slate of commonsense legislation to protect New Hampshire military families and federal workers during a shutdown. Goodlander sent a letter to the Administrator of the United States House of Representatives requesting that her congressional salary be withheld in the event of a shutdown. She has also cosponsored legislation that would do the same.

“I voted for a commonsense budget that would keep our government open, protect the healthcare of people across New Hampshire, lower sky-high costs, and restore to Congress the basic constitutional responsibilities that the President has lawlessly ripped away,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “Republicans blocked that commonsense budget and senselessly left town, hurtling our country toward a government shutdown. If Republicans continue refusing to do their jobs, New Hampshire families and federal public servants will pay the price. My door is always open.”

The slate of legislation Congresswoman Goodlander is helping lead to support New Hampshire workers includes:

  • H.R. 5401, the Pay Our Troops Act of 2026, and the Pay Our Military Act
    • These bills ensure our military members continue to be paid during a government shutdown.
  • H.R. 1973, No Pay for Congress During Default or Shutdown Act
    • This bill would prevent Members of Congress from being paid if they fail their basic duty of funding the government.
  • H.R. 5451, Aviation Funding Stability Act
    • This bill would ensure that TSA agents and air traffic controllers continue to be paid during a government shutdown.
  • H.R. 2563, Aviation Education Remaining Operations Act (AERO ACT)
    • This bill ensures that the FAA continues to train air traffic controllers during a government shutdown to ensure our air safety workforce is fully staffed and no lapses occur.

Congresswoman Goodlander has dedicated her life to ensuring a fair deal for New Hampshire. During her time serving in the United States Department of Justice, she saw firsthand how wasteful and expensive government shutdowns are, and how painful they can be for hardworking families. Now, as the Congresswoman representing New Hampshire, she is working to protect Granite Staters.
