Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander, a former naval intelligence officer and member of the House Armed Services Committee, called for the immediate passage of a bipartisan War Powers Resolution to halt President Trump’s unauthorized military escalation in Venezuela and the Western Hemisphere.
“Our Constitution entrusts Congress – not the President – with the power to declare war, and I will not stand idly by while the President attempts to send America’s sons and daughters into harm’s way for reasons that defy common sense,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “The American people deserve a vote on this urgent congressional action now.”
Congresswoman Goodlander’s remarks on this resolution, which she is co-sponsoring, are available here.
Goodlander has dedicated her life to serving our country. She began her career working as a senior advisor to Senator John McCain in the United States Senate and went on to serve as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve for more than a decade. She serves as a member of the Armed Services Committee and a co-chair of the Service Women and Women Veterans Caucus. On December 10, 2025, the House overwhelmingly voted to include a provision in the Goodlander-backed National Defense Authorization Act requiring that the unedited video of the September 2 strike on a boat in the Caribbean be made available to Congress. Already this Congress, she led two other War Powers Resolutions, which the House voted on in December.
