Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander – a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, law clerk to Justice Stephen Breyer on the United States Supreme Court, and constitutional law professor at the University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth – has joined the House Rapid Response Task Force and Litigation Working Group to protect and defend Granite Staters from the onslaught of unlawful Trump Administration executive actions.
Since President Trump took office, there have been nearly 100 cases filed against more than 45 different actions his administration has taken, including in New Hampshire. To date, almost two dozen Temporary Restraining Orders (TROs) and Preliminary Injunctions have been placed, blocking these illegal moves. The House Rapid Response Task Force and Litigation Working Group will advance legislative solutions, support ongoing litigation when appropriate, and work with local and national partners to uphold the constitutional balance of power to hold this administration accountable.
“Exactly 56 days ago today, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies — foreign and domestic. I am fighting every day in all that I do for the people of New Hampshire in Congress,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “Here in the United States of America, we have no king. We have three co-equal branches of democratic government. And when it comes to the fundamental protections of our Constitution, I will not surrender an inch and will take the fight to the courts to protect the people of New Hampshire.”
“In just the past month, the Trump administration has issued a series of executive orders and administrative actions that are unconstitutional and will impose dire consequences for everyday Americans across the country. These actions warrant a decisive response, which is why our Task Force will work relentlessly to develop comprehensive legislative, oversight and legal strategies — to vindicate the constitution, and the rights of the American people. And I’m deeply grateful to Rep. Goodlander for her leadership, commitment and willingness to serve as a member of the Task Force,” said House Assistant Minority Leader Joe Neguse (CO-02).
As part of the Task Force, Goodlander has already signed an amicus brief in response to a long list of illegal actions by the Trump Administration to undermine the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) – the agency responsible for overseeing financial products and services for Americans, from credit cards to checking accounts to home loans – and in support of the lawsuit in the matter of National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), et al. v. CFPB Acting Director Russell Vought, et al. before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The CFPB does important work for the people of New Hampshire and our country. Since its inception, the CFPB has returned an estimated $21 billion to taxpayers.
Congresswoman Goodlander has dedicated her life to serving New Hampshire and our country. Driven by her belief that no politician is above the law, Maggie also served as counsel in the first impeachment of President Donald Trump.
