Goodlander Cosponsors Bipartisan Legislation to Lower Utility Costs for Granite Staters

Concord, N.H. — Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander is cosponsoring H.R. 1355, the Weatherization Enhancement and Readiness Act, bipartisan legislation that invests in home weatherization efforts to save low-income families hundreds of dollars on their energy bills while making homes safer, healthier, and more energy efficient.

“We’ve got some of the highest energy costs in America here in New Hampshire, and I’m looking for ways to lower costs for hardworking Granite Staters every day in Congress,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “This bipartisan bill will help families across our state save money on energy bills by making their homes more resilient and energy efficient.”

The Weatherization Enhancement & Readiness Act would help hardworking families by:

  • Reauthorizing the Weatherization Assistance Program through Fiscal Year 2030;
  • The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) reduces energy costs for low-income households by increasing the energy efficiency of their homes, while ensuring their health and safety.
  • Raising the statutory Average Cost Per Unit from $6,500 to $12,000, so that households can receive more assistance, and WAP implementers can pay competitive wages and retain their workforces;
  • Authorizing the Weatherization Readiness Program to address structural, plumbing, roofing, and electrical issues, and environmental hazards with dwelling units unable to receive effective assistance from WAP;
  • Authorizing $50 million annually through Fiscal Year 2030 for the Weatherization Readiness Program; and
  • Making other minor and clarifying changes to WAP.

Congresswoman Goodlander has dedicated her life to ensuring Granite Staters get a fair deal. A former Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she took on the corporate monopolies jacking up costs across the board, Goodlander helped launch the Lowering Costs Caucus, a group dedicated to tackling the cost crisis that is standing between hardworking people and the American Dream.
