Goodlander Helps Champion Legislation to Restore Reproductive Freedom

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander helped introduce the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act as an original cosponsor. This bicameral legislation will guarantee abortion coverage, regardless of how a patient gets their health insurance. Rep. Pappas is also an original cosponsor of this legislation.

The EACH Act ends the discriminatory Hyde Amendment and lifts unjust abortion coverage restrictions for those who depend on Medicaid and other government-sponsored plans. The bill protects the constitutionally-protected right to abortion and helps ensure everyone can get the reproductive healthcare they need, regardless of income, insurance, or zip code.

“As a daughter of the Live Free or Die state, I know women in America cannot live freely without full control of our bodies and full access to reproductive and maternal health care,” said Goodlander. “That’s why I am proud to help champion the EACH Act, bold legislation that will guarantee women in New Hampshire and across the country can access the reproductive healthcare they need, regardless of how they get their health insurance.”

Congresswoman Goodlander is a fierce advocate for reproductive freedom. She was serving as a law clerk for Justice Stephen Breyer on the United States Supreme Court when Roe v. Wade was first called into question, and was working at the Department of Justice in 2022 when the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Dobbs. Following the ruling, she helped the Justice Department launch the first-ever Reproductive Rights Task Force to protect reproductive freedom under federal law by monitoring and evaluating state and local laws that threaten to infringe on federal protections for reproductive care, including laws that impose criminal and civil penalties on those seeking an abortion or laws that ban or limit access to mifepristone despite the expert judgment of the Food and Drug Administration.
