Concord, N.H. – Following the Trump Administration’s rollout of a proposed rule to roll back abortion access for women veterans, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander, a former intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve for over a decade, helped introduce the Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act, legislation to guarantee that veterans and eligible dependents have the right to receive abortion care, medication, and counseling through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), without interference.
“We have a duty to ensure our veterans and servicemembers get the healthcare they need. President Trump is trying to impose an abortion ban under which veterans and servicemembers in states across America may be forced to carry pregnancies to term even if they were raped or the pregnancy puts their health at risk. That’s not right,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “That’s why I’m helping to lead the Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act – a commonsense bill that will ensure those who fight for our freedoms have the freedom to get the healthcare they need without interference.”
The Administration’s proposed rule would reinstate the VA’s near-total abortion ban, including in cases of rape or incest. If finalized, this policy would take away access to care for women veterans and eligible dependents across the country, forcing them to either go without essential reproductive health services or seek care outside the VA. The Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act would eliminate ambiguity in the rulemaking process by enshrining in law a veteran’s right to access abortion care at the VA, ensuring that reproductive health services are not subject to the personal views or political agendas of any future Secretary or Administration.

Congresswoman Goodlander has dedicated her life to serving the people of New Hampshire and protecting the personal freedoms that define our nation. When the Department of Defense and Secretary Hegseth rescinded a policy that allowed service members to be reimbursed for travel and transportation to receive the reproductive care they need, Goodlander slammed the move and called for an immediate reversal.
