Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander joined her Republican colleagues to pass the Affordable Housing Opportunities Made Easier through Simplification (Affordable HOMES) Act, bipartisan legislation that eliminates unnecessary federal red tape that is driving up the cost of manufactured housing and pricing hardworking families out of the American Dream. Congressman Chris Pappas also voted in support of this bipartisan legislation.
“Sky-high costs are standing between hardworking Americans and a cornerstone of the American Dream: having a home you love. To bring down costs, we need to build more affordable homes in New Hampshire — and fast,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “That’s exactly what our bipartisan Affordable HOMES Act will help us do.”
The Affordable HOMES Act cuts costly and confusing mandates that burden families, builders, and communities, and will ensure manufactured housing remains an affordable and accessible option for millions of Americans, especially first-time homebuyers, young families, and seniors.
Congresswoman Goodlander is a fierce advocate for addressing the housing crisis in New Hampshire. She is leading the End Rent Fixing Act, legislation to prohibit digital price fixing by landlords artificially inflating rents, something she took on as a Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. She helped introduce the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act, bipartisan legislation to support the financing and development of affordable housing across the country by expanding and strengthening the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. She also helped introduce the Supporting Upgraded Property Projects and Lending for Yards (SUPPLY) Act, bipartisan legislation to address the national housing shortage by expanding access to financing for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), also known as backyard cottages, granny flats, or in-law suites.
