House Passes Goodlander-Backed Bipartisan Bills to Empower New Hampshire’s Small Businesses

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander, a member of the House Small Business Committee, praised the House’s passage of three bipartisan bills she backed to empower New Hampshire small businesses. As she explained in her remarks on the House floor, 99% of New Hampshire’s businesses are small businesses. A full description of the legislation passed by the House is listed at the bottom of this release.

“Small businesses are the beating heart of New Hampshire’s economy. From our cutting-edge aerospace and life science companies to our retailers on Main Streets from Nashua to the North Country, New Hampshire’s small businesses are truly world-class,” said Congresswoman Goodlander. “These bipartisan bills that I was proud to back will ensure small businesses in the Granite State have true advocates in the executive branch and a seat at the table in discussions that impact our international economy, including trade negotiations. The bipartisan bills passed tonight will also create a level playing field for our small businesses to compete for government contracts and protect against waste, fraud, and abuse of important federal resources.”

“Allowing the SBA’s Office of Advocacy to speak on behalf of small businesses in trade discussions is a vital step towards creating trade agreements and regulatory initiatives that prioritize Main Street America,” said Chairman of the Small Business Committee Roger Williams (R-TX-25) about the Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act. “I want to thank Representative Goodlander for her work on this important legislation.”

“I’m proud to be a part of the California 45th’s rich community of small business owners and entrepreneurs. Owning an independent pharmacy with my wife, I’ve seen firsthand how federal resources for small businesses can be improved to help local economies flourish,” said Congressman Derek Tran (D-CA-45) about the Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act“This legislation helps the federal government work better for local businesses by supporting their efforts to compete internationally. I was proud to co-lead this bipartisan legislation and I am thrilled to see it pass in the House today.”

The House passed three bipartisan bills backed by Congresswoman Goodlander, including:

  • H.R. 832, the Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act, co-led by Congresswoman Goodlander: Authorizes and directs the Office of Advocacy within the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to fully represent and advocate for the views and interests of small businesses on international issues that impact small businesses, including international trade agreements.
  • H.R. 825, the Assisting Small Businesses Not Fraudsters Act: Prohibits those convicted of defrauding the government from receiving future Small Business Administration (SBA) assistance.
  • H.R. 818, the SPUR Act: Better helps small businesses compete for federal agency contracts by ensuring the SBA considers the number of small businesses that secure a first-time federal prime contract when evaluating a federal agency on its contracting scorecard.

Congresswoman Goodlander has dedicated her life to serving New Hampshire and our country and is fighting every day to ensure every Granite Stater gets a fair deal. Before taking the oath of office to represent New Hampshire in the People’s House, she served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the United States Department of Justice, where she took on the corporate monopolies hurting New Hampshire’s small businesses and held them accountable for jacking up prices and making life harder for hardworking Granite Staters.
