New Hampshire Congressional Delegation Applauds Delivery of Over $5.9 Million to New Hampshire Electric Co-Op

Concord, N.H. — Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (NH-02), Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01), U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (NH-D), and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (NH-D) applauded the delivery of over $5.9 million in federal funding to the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC).

“When the April 2024 storm tore down power lines and poles across our state, New Hampshire Electric Co-op crews worked long, hard hours in brutal conditions to get the lights back on,” said Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander. “Granite Staters shouldn’t be left holding the bill for that recovery. I’m glad to see more than $5.9 million in federal disaster funding coming home to New Hampshire to reimburse the Co-op. The power of this Co-op is that it’s owned by its members, so this money goes right back to the people it serves. I’ll keep fighting for every penny that’s yours.”

“Last year’s severe winter storms created enormous wind and flooding across New Hampshire, leading many Granite Staters to lose power. Thanks to the work of emergency response crews working around the clock, the damage to our electrical infrastructure was repaired but at great cost to small communities with limited resources,” said Senator Shaheen. “I’m glad to see that more than five million dollars in federal funding is headed to the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative to help cover these expenses and better prepare our critical infrastructure for the future.”

“It is critical that our communities have the resources that they need to recover and rebuild in the face of severe storms,” said Senator Hassan. “This federal funding will help New Hampshire communities repair critical infrastructure damaged by severe weather, improve flood protections, and strengthen our state’s emergency preparedness. I will continue working to bring federal resources back to New Hampshire to ensure that our communities have the support that they need to recover from severe storms and prepare for future disasters.”

“This federal funding supports the reconstruction of critical infrastructure by NHEC and protects the well-being of Granite Staters,” said Congressman Pappas. “I’ll continue working to deliver resources back to New Hampshire to update old or damaged infrastructure, strengthen our storm preparedness, and keep people safe.”

Background:

In April 2024, a severe winter storm brought strong winds and flooding that damaged the NHEC electrical distribution system, threatening the health and safety of Granite Staters. Strong winds damaged power lines, utility poles, and transformers, causing power outages in Belknap, Carroll, Grafton, Rockingham, and Sullivan Counties.
