Washington, D.C. – Today, as the Senate is expected to consider the final confirmation of Pete Hegseth to serve as our nation’s Secretary of Defense, Representative Maggie Goodlander released the following statement:
“The decision of who serves as our nation’s Secretary of Defense is a consequential one for America and for the women and men who serve in our military. I saw that firsthand every day that I served in our Navy, at the Justice Department, and in the White House.
“Pete Hegseth is unfit to lead our Department of Defense. He lacks the experience to be trusted with the management of the Pentagon’s $850 billion budget. And he lacks the judgment to lead its more than 3 million employees, including the thousands of women whose service in combat and non-combat roles alike is vital to our national security.
“I don’t have a vote on his nomination, but as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will never stop fighting for our servicemembers and the security of our nation.”
A member of the House Armed Services Committee, Representative Goodlander has dedicated her life to serving New Hampshire and our country. Before taking the oath to represent the Second District in the People’s House, she served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve for over a decade. Goodlander began her career as an advisor to Senators John McCain and Joe Lieberman, both of whom served on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
